Working Title: Baseball: The Statistical Revolution

1. Concept:
My show will be a show for baseball nerds. I want to do a talk show/discussion based show about baseball. More specifically, I want to delve into the world of baseball statistics and sabermetrics. However, I still want the show to be entertaining, so I will also relate the statistics information to other aspects of baseball. Fantasy baseball is a good example of a way that I can discuss statistics and sabermetrics, while still relating it back to something that other baseball fans can relate to. I will also discuss Moneyball (the book, not the movie) and how that played a major role in the statistics revolution (at least for baseball) that is currently taking place. For my final project I will be incorporating video and graphics to make it more exciting and interesting for the viewer, however, for my test sequence, I am just hoping to give just a taste of what the show will feel like.
2. Techniques to work on: Studio shooting will be the major technique I will need to work on for my test sequence. This includes the actual filming, lighting, and sound. Ultimately, for the final project, I will also be incorporating editing and inserting of video/graphics.
3. Actors/Subjects: For my test sequence I will be the only person appearing on camera. However, for my final project I will most likely have two or three “experts” on my show and have a roundtable type of discussion. The other option would be to have one on one discussions instead of a roundtable. In this scenario, two baseball stat geeks would have a back and forth discussion/argument about players or a particular topic. There would of course be a lot of banter, arguing, and gesticulating in this scenario as well. I am still trying to figure out which format I prefer, but I am leaning toward the roundtable idea.
4. Equipment needed: I will need a camera, a microphone, and a studio to shoot in. That is really all I will need for my test sequence.
5. Possible locations: Studio.
6. Other logistics (releases, scheduling conflicts, etc.): I should not have any logistical issues because I do not need any releases or consent, and I can make my own schedule. I will need to book some studio time and get my equipment, but that should be all I need for my test sequence. I may run into some logistical issues for my final project concerning finding my “experts”, but for the test sequence I don’t foresee any logistical issues.
Feedback, concerns, or predictions from Group Member 1: I am really excited about my idea. It is clearly aimed at a distinct niche audience, but I think it is an original idea in that regard. I am nervous about putting it all together without a group, but I will get it done. I am looking forward to learning on the go and being able to produce something tangible. My biggest concern, aside from my total lack of experience with the equipment, is figuring out what format I want to use for the show. Again, I am leaning towards the roundtable idea I mentioned above, but I am not 100% sure yet. This will be a big part of my focus.
